Email Delivery lets you choose how your organization sends workflow emails. Use the shared Unison domain for transactional emails, or verify your organization’s domain to send marketing emails with your own sender address.
Choose a sending option
Open Settings > Integrations > Email Delivery.
Choose the option that fits your workflow emails:
| Sending option | When to use it | Setup required |
|---|---|---|
| Use Unison shared domain | Send transactional workflow emails | No changes to your organization’s DNS |
| Use your organization’s domain | Send marketing emails or use your own domain for transactional emails | Add and verify a sending domain |
With the shared domain, emails send from success@email.totango.com. Replies go to the sender address configured in the workflow.
The Preview shows an example of the sending address and reply destination using your email address. Individual workflow emails use the sender configured in that workflow.
Verify your organization’s sending domain
Before you begin, ask your IT team which domain to use. For example, your organization might use cs.acme.com. You need an admin role to change these settings.
- Open Settings > Integrations > Email Delivery.
- Under Custom sending domain, enter your sending domain.
- Click Add domain.
- Give the displayed DNS records to your IT team. Ask them to publish each record with the exact type, host, and value shown.
- After the records are published, click Verify domain.
- Confirm that the domain status is Verified. If verification does not succeed, check the records with your IT team. Allow the DNS changes to become available, then click Verify domain again.
- Under Sending strategy, confirm that Use your organization’s domain is selected.
- Review the Preview to confirm the example sending address.
Adding a domain selects the custom sending strategy. Until verification succeeds, transactional emails continue to use the shared domain. Marketing emails require a verified custom domain.
Set the sender display name
Use Default from name to choose the name recipients see alongside the sending address.
- Under Default from name, enter a display name, such as Acme Customer Success.
- Click Save.
This setting changes the display name. It does not change the sending domain or reply destination.
Brand links in marketing emails
Link branding lets links tracked in marketing emails use your organization’s domain. This setup is optional and becomes available after your sending domain is verified.
- Under Link branding, enter a Link subdomain, such as url. Leave it blank to use an assigned subdomain.
- Click Set up link branding.
- Ask your IT team to publish the displayed DNS records.
- Click Verify link branding.
- Confirm that the status is Verified. If verification does not succeed, check the records and try again after the DNS changes become available.
Manage marketing unsubscribes
The Marketing unsubscribes section lists recipients recorded as unsubscribed from your organization’s marketing workflow emails.
- Enter an email address in Search email.
- Click Search.
- Review the matching recipients.
To resubscribe a recipient who has asked to receive marketing emails again:
- Select the checkbox beside the recipient.
- Click Resubscribe selected.
Resubscribing removes the recipient from the Unison list and requests an update to the corresponding SendGrid unsubscribe group when configured. If the recipient continues to be excluded from marketing emails, contact Support.
FAQs
Do I need my own SendGrid account or API key?
You do not enter SendGrid credentials in Email Delivery. Configure your sending domain and DNS records through this page.
Why can’t I select my organization’s domain?
You must add and verify a custom sending domain before you can select that option.
Can I send marketing emails from the shared domain?
No. Marketing emails require your organization’s verified sending domain and its unsubscribe configuration. Unison sets up the unsubscribe group during domain verification.
If an error says the unsubscribe group is missing or invalid, verify your domain again. Contact Support if the error continues.
Which address receives replies?
Replies go to the sender address configured in the workflow. With a custom domain, Unison uses the part of that address before @ with your verified domain.
For example, if the workflow sender is alex@acme.com and your verified domain is cs.acme.com, the sending address is alex@cs.acme.com. Replies go to alex@acme.com.
What happens if I rename my sending domain?
Renaming clears its verification. Publish the new DNS records and verify the domain again before sending marketing emails. Transactional emails use the shared domain while the custom domain is unverified.
What happens if my domain loses verification?
Marketing emails cannot send through that domain. Transactional emails fall back to the shared domain. Check the DNS records and verify your domain again.
Does a successful test email confirm that unsubscribe handling works?
No. Marketing test previews bypass unsubscribe checks so you can review the email content. A successful preview does not confirm how unsubscribe handling works for regular marketing emails.
